If there are charges which they cannot explain, its a big sign. The other way to catch someone is by the cologne or perfume on their clothes.
No matter which signs of infidelity you glimpse in your own life, you need to be careful. You should never confront your spouse unless you are one hundred percent sure that he or she has actually been unfaithful. It may hurt to get that proof, but it will be better for both of you in the long run.
