Vacation Clothes for the 1920’s Woman

randomguy @ 6:07 pm

In planning a vacation, there is not only the question of "Where shall I go?" but also "What shall I take with me?" to be answered, for although mere clothes should not be allowed to spoil one's enjoyment of any occasion, still it must be admitted that the right sort will help to make any event more successful. With this in mind, it may be that what you are able to afford will limit your trip, but if such is the case adjust your plans accordingly.

You will find a week or two at a nearby beauty spot much more enjoyable than a few days at a more pretentious resort beyond your means, for such a vacation will not entail the expense and worry that usually accompany the plans for a pretentious, even though brief, vacation. And the result will be that instead of a large part of your vacation money being spent for additions to your wardrobe for which you will have no use when your holiday is over, all of it may go toward enjoyment or the realization of plans that will mean much to you.

Certain essentials, however, must be provided for any trip, and it is not too early now to plan for the summer holiday. The list given in the next column includes the clothing that is needed for practically any vacation of two weeks. If you expect to stay longer, it will be necessary for you to increase the number of garments, or make arrangements for laundry, or do both.

In considering the list of clothes that has been given, you may feel that you are in a position to add to it in some respects. If so, and but one more outfit can be provided, have this a sports dress, because you will find that for daytime wear the sports dress is smartest and most worn, being entirely suitable for both morning and afternoon.

If you can have two new garments, the second might be a summer wrap, a shawl, or a cape in a lovely color that will add just the right touch to your evening outfit. It may be, however, that you will have occasion to wear an evening dress each night; in such an event, it will be better to provide several of such frocks and omit the dress-up wrap, your coat or scarf serving instead. The smaller the groups you meet, as in a small hotel or inn, the more you will feel the need of variety in clothes, but the simple, inexpensive frocks will be the most desirable.
